Elon Musk Taunts Meta as Facebook, Instagram Crash; Users Flood Rival X with Mocking Memes

Elon Musk and other X users are gloating about the Facebook and Instagram outages.

After Meta’s main social networking applications (Facebook and Instagram) crashed about 10:20am ET on Tuesday, Musk and many of others went to post memes.

Musk inserted a tweet from Meta communications chief Andy Stone expressing his indignation onto a photo of three penguins branded with Meta corporate logos saluting an X logo.

According to DownDetector, over 200,000 Americans were experiencing problems with Facebook, with another 30,000 struggling with Messenger and 8,000 unable to get Facebook Messenger to work.

And the tiny drama quickly sparked waves of internet comedy. Thousands praised X, formerly known as Twitter, and joked that they were joined by millions of social media junkies who couldn’t get their fix due to the outage.

Facebook users reported getting thrown out of their accounts while using the right login credentials.

Instagram users attempting to browse other profiles were shown a warning indicating that the information was not loading properly.

Meta has yet to comment on the cause of the outage.

But Musk was glad to rub salt in the wound, commenting on X: ‘If you can see this post, it’s because our systems are operational.’

Meta outages extended throughout Europe, Asia, and China.
