Elon Musk, the founder of X (previously Twitter), has stated that the company may discontinue revealing the number of likes and reposts people receive on its timeline.
The tech billionaire addressed Morgan Stanley’s technology, media, and telecom conference on Wednesday.
According to Reuters, Musk believes exposing the like and repost functions makes the platform appear disorderly.
“The information could visually clutter content on the platform” , he pointed out.
“That is certainly happening. Musk stated on X that the timeline will just display view counts as a proxy for other metrics.
He also stated that the timeline will continue to display view counts, a feature implemented after he took over the social platform.
Since acquiring X in October 2022, Musk has proposed significant adjustments on several occasions.
In August 2023, the platform launched a monthly advertising revenue payment program for approved content authors.
Musk removed the block feature, stating it made “no sense”.
He did, however, state that the feature will continue for direct communications.
In February, X added voice and video call services.
Musk also revealed on Wednesday that X could soon be approved for a money transmitter license in New York, bringing the platform one step closer to delivering payment features.
