Diddy has surpassed Kanye West as the richest hip-hop artist in 2022.
According to a new report from former Forbes editor Zack O’Malley, Jay-Z is still the richest hip-hop artist in North America, with a net worth of $1.5 billion. Ye was in second place on the list of hip-highest hop’s earners earlier this year, with $250 million in earnings projected for 2021, but after his contract with Adidas was terminated due to his anti-Semitic comments, he’s dropped to third place in terms of net worth. He was said to be worth $2 billion earlier this year.
Diddy is now in second place, having previously trailed behind Ye.
With a net worth of $1 billion, Diddy is hip-third hop’s billionaire. His Cîroc partnership with Diageo is said to account for the majority of his wealth, but other assets such as Revolt and DeLeón Tequila have also contributed; he made $90 million last year.
Ye’s net worth is now estimated to be around $500 million, with the loss of his Adidas contract being the most significant contributor to his decline. Earlier this month, Diddy and Ye traded barbs on Instagram over the “White Lives Matter” t-shirt controversy.
Ye is still wealthy because he keeps his 5% stake in Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS shapewear line, as well as the rights to his master recordings and music publishing. He also retains ownership of the Yeezy brand, despite the fact that Adidas retains “sole ownership of all design rights to existing products as well as previous new colorways under the partnership.”
According to a Forbes report published earlier this month, Ye’s net worth has dropped to $400 million since the Adidas deal was terminated. When he returned to Instagram, he appeared to confirm such reports, saying he “lost 2 billion dollars in one day.”
