Brookhaven’s Kortne Nelson named 2024 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar

Kortne Nelson of Brookhaven, a Copiah-Lincoln Community College student, has been chosen a 2024 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar, receiving a $1,250 prize.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Academic Team program by awarding over $200,000 in scholarships to 50 Gold, 50 Silver, and 50 Bronze Scholars each year. Each scholar receives a commemorative medallion.

“The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has a long history of providing financial assistance to outstanding students at community colleges,” stated Foundation President Jane Hale Hopkins. “We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa to make it possible for more deserving students to achieve their educational goals and support tomorrow’s global community leaders.”

College officials nominate students to join the academic team. Academic achievement, leadership, and involvement in college and community service are used to determine selection.

Members of the Coca-Cola Academic Team will be recognized at local and statewide celebrations. They will also be honored internationally at PTK Catalyst, the honor society’s annual meeting in Florida, in April.

“We thank the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation for recognizing these student leaders and investing in their futures,” said Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, PTK CEO and president. “Scholarships like these are integral to the success of these students in reaching their educational and career goals.”

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation provides scholarships to almost 1,400 college students each year through three nationally recognized programs, totaling $3.55 million. PTK has about 3.8 million members in approximately 1,300 chapters across 11 countries.
