AFCON Winners To Receive Record $7 Million Prize

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations winners will take home a record seven million dollars (6.4 million euros).

Senegal received 40% more than they did for winning the previous tournament in Cameroon two years prior.

Four million dollars will be awarded to the runners-up in the Ivory Coast, which is hosting the best African football competition from January 13 to February 11.

The statement said that quarterfinalists would receive $1 million apiece, and losing semi-finalists would receive $2.5 million. No more information on prize money was provided.

In the West African nation, hosts Ivory Coast and 23 other nations—including record seven-time winners Egypt—will compete for victory.

In the opening match of the tournament, which takes place on January 13 at the 60,000-seat Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, the two-time champions Ivory Coast take on Guinea-Bissau, who have lost their last three meetings.
