Aevin Dugas Reclaims Guinness World Record for Largest Afro Hair Style

Aevin Dugas, 47, of Reserve, Louisiana, has reclaimed the Guinness World Record for the longest afro on a live female. Her hair measured 9.84 inches tall, 10.4 inches broad, and 5.41 feet around. This was a big improvement over her previous best of 4 feet 4 inches in 2010.

Simone Williams, a New Yorker with a hair circumference of 4 feet, 10 inches, broke Dugas’s record in 2020. Dugas, on the other hand, has reclaimed the crown with her spectacular afro. She has been growing her hair for 24 years and has several different hairstyles, although her afro is only worn on rare occasions.

Dugas said in an interview with Guinness World Records that she no longer uses harmful chemicals to permanently straighten her hair, which have been linked to cancer. She is happy with her decision to go natural because she believes it is better for her health.

Dugas’ afro has elicited a range of reactions. Some people admire it, while others simply look or inquire. She has learnt to deal with those who try to touch her hair by giving them a small pop on the hand with a few choice comments.

The Louisiana woman has become an inspiration to many others, especially women of color who have been encouraged to accept their natural hair. Her accomplishment should be recognized as a monument to the beauty and uniqueness of black hair.
