Zambia: Former President Kenneth Kaunda Hospitalized!

Former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda, 93, is currently hospitalized at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka, capital of Zambia.

According to media reports in Zambia, the father of the Zambian nation was taken to the hospital on Tuesday evening after complaining about his health.

The country’s health minister, Chitalu Chilufya, said that the state of Kenneth Kaunda is not serious. ” He is a national asset, so we thought we could do other routine medical examinations while in our custody.Everything is fine and it will come out soon, “ he said.

“The medical staff also performs general medical examinations on Dr. Kaunda and he is ready to be released from the hospital at any time tomorrow,” said Chitalu Chilufya.

The government also urged Zambian citizens not to panic with the situation of the former president, but they should instead pray for him.

Kenneth Kaunda is a hero of the struggle for the liberation of Zambia. He ruled the country from 1964 to 1991, when he lost the elections against the late Frederick Chiluba.

Zambia was a one-party state for much of that time, although Kaunda eventually gave way under pressure to hold a multi-party vote. He left power without tension when he lost the elections.

The democratic record of Zambia after Kaunda was widely appreciated as an African model. However, the recent imprisonment of the main opposition leader and the increase in police powers have raised concerns about Zambian democracy.
