Wow! Self-Taught Nigerian Artist, Oscar Ukonu, Draws Impossibly Realistic Portraits Using Only A Pen

Oscar Ukonu is a brilliant self-taught Nigerian artist, who uses only a pen to create stunning photorealistic portraits that take him an average of 100 to 120 hours to complete.
Before Oscar gets started on one of his portraits, he studies his subjects face for about two days to “connect with their personality” – and with such brilliant outcomes, who can argue with his methods?

Oscar started drawing when he was nine years old but only landed his first commissioned piece three years ago. It’s been uphill from there though, with over 12,000 followers on Instagram and successful exhibitions around Lagos, Oscar’s work seems to only be getting better (and more appreciated).
Oscar, who only started drawing with pens two years ago, says he didn’t start using the medium to achieve any sort of acclaim, but that the “steady ballpoint feature” gave him more control than any other tool – including the graphite pencils he started off with.
Check out the rest of Oscar Ukonu’s masterful work on his Instagram.
