One day after the start of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, Sweden opened the gold medal ball.
This Saturday in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Charlotte Kalla won the first Olympic skiathlon title, behind Norway’s Marit Bjoergen.
By winning in the skiathlon event (7.5 km in classic style, then 7.5 km in freestyle), she stole the crown from Norwegian legend Marit Björgen … for seven seconds.
Double world champion in this discipline and Finland’s Krista Parmakoski.
In Speed Skating, Frenchman Thibaut Fauconnet, who finished second in the semifinals, could not win a medal because of a crash at a turn as he returned to the top three.
Ditto for his compatriot Sebastien Lepape who finished fourth in a semifinal at 8. The French flag will not be able to float in the air for this discipline.
The Olympic Winter Games were officially opened on Friday with North and South Korean personalities including North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un’s sister.
