Volocopter: Dubai Successfully Tests The World’s First Unmanned Taxi (Video)

Dubai successfully launched the test flight of the very first taxi-flying near Jumeirah Beach Park on Monday, under the supervision of Sheikh Hamdan, Dubai’s crown prince. This initiative was taken by the Emirate who wants to become the pioneer of this interesting means of transport.

This prototype taxi, developed by Volocopter, a German company specializing in the manufacture of autonomous aircraft, can carry two people and can fly for 30 minutes at a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour.

The unmanned flight taxi initiative, introduced by the Dubai Road Transport Authority (RTA), will be integrated into the public transport system, which already includes autonomous subways, buses and trams.

The plans also include the launch of a smartphone application allowing customers to make reservations. On this application, users will be able to book flights, track their flight and receive details of their booking.

The UAE authorities underlined that they were planning five years of testing to put in place safety standards and legislation for this new means of transport.
