Virgil Van Dijk Explains Why Some Footballers are Broke After Retirement (Video)

Vigil van Dijk is already preparing for retirement. Despite his incredible fortune, the Liverpool star avoids all expenses that could make him regret in the future.

The Dutchman joined the English squad in 2017 for a record amount of 85.5 million euros. He quickly became a central figure in Jurgen Klopp’s team. Thanks to him, the club has one of the best defenses in the world. According to Spotrac, van Dijk is one of the highest paid players in Liverpool, with a weekly salary of 21,000 euros.

Even if he shouldn’t worry about anything, Virgil Van Dijk is very careful. During a question and answer session with children on Lfctv, the 28-year-old defender revealed that he is not the type to spend unnecessarily.

“I don’t spend my money, I save it. The problem is that when you stop playing football, you are out of work. You have to save a lot of money for retirement. When you are no longer a footballer, your income is limited and you will have problems if you had not saved, “ he said.
