Video: South African President, Jacob Zuma Took a Nap During Gordhan’s Midterm Budget Speech

The embattled finance minister of South Africa gave his mini-budget speech in the national Assembly and, despite the circumstances, pretty much aced it. The day could have been regarded as a success, were it not for the violent clashes happening outside parliament at the same time… oh and the president of the country falling asleep during the minister’s budget speech. He must have taken his cue from minister of international relations, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane. Remember when she had a little nap during her boss’ impeachment debate?

Anyway, no big deal, just one of the most important budget speeches to date considering we’re teetering on the edge of a ratings downgrade. It’s quite telling that a man responsible for so much of what’s happening in SA right now sleeps soundly while two of the key factors currently affecting South Africans plays out both where he’s sitting, and outside.
