The beginning of 2017 was when Barack Obama left the White House. The former President took the opportunity to take a vacation after eight years at the helm of power. According to the daily Le Figaro, he devoted himself to reading and music.

In order to transmit to the greatest number the taste of the arts, the predecessor of Donald Trump published the list of his literary and musical favorites through a message posted on his Facebook account on December 31, 2017.

For selected books, there are  journalistic essays or investigations. For example,  Poverty and Profit in theAmerican Life  of Sociologist and Professor Princeton Matthew Desmond. The former US president also read the work of  Washington Post  reporter Amy Goldstein on the closure  of the General Motors Janesville, Wisconsin , plant during the first Obama term in 2009 .

As for music, Barack Obama’s list is longer. We find Kendrick Lamar  Humble ),  The National (The System only Dreams Intotal Darkness),  via Franck Ocean  Chanel )  and an unpublished version of  Born in the USA  by Bruce Springsteen.

We note the presence at the top of the list of Latin American songs like  Mi Gente  Colombian J. Balvin and the DJ born Fréjus, Willy William or  Havana  Camila Cabello.

The Malian group The Amazons of Africa in which the famous singer Mariam Doumbia participates with the well-known duo Amadou and Mariam is also part of the musical tastes of Barack Obama. The former US president seems to have particularly enjoyed the title  The Lady and his Suitcases , published on the album  Republic Amazon  released in 2017 at the British label Real World Records singer Peter Gabriel.
