US First Lady Michelle Obama To Tour Africa This Month

United States’ first lady Michelle Obama will be taking a trip to Liberia and Morocco in late June to promote a campaign by the White House that advocates for female education “Let Girls Learn”.

Michelle will be promoting education for girls in Liberia and Morroco. She will be accompanied by her two daughters Sasha and Malia Obama, celebrity actresses Meryl Streep and Frieda Pinto, plus she will also be joined by her mother Mrs. Marian Robinson.

According to reports Michelle will be Liberia with her family and Frieda Pinto meeting with young girls to discuss the struggles they face in their pursuit of education. Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is expected to join them. Michelle is also expected to visit a Peace Corps training facility in Kakata while in Liberia.

Michelle will be joined by Pinto, Meryl Streep and CNN’s Isha Sessy in Morocco for a similar discussion on girl’s education. She will wind up her trip in Spain on the same agenda and meet with the Queen of Spain, Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano.

“The First Lady’s visit will also highlight commitments made by the U.S. Government through the Millennium Challenge Corporation and USAID in partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco to help adolescent girls in Morocco go to school and stay in school,” the White House statement says.

The three-country trip is booked for June 27-July 1 and will cost will cost nearly $300,000 according to media reports. The first lady will announce new commitments by organizations to support Let Girls Learn, which was launched to help the 62 million girls around the world who are not enrolled in school according to the statement released by the White House.
