A woman on a flight from Portland to Sacramento was arrested after threatening to kill everyone on the flight.
Valerie Curbelo of Sandy, Oregon, was taken into custody on Saturday for uttering threats on a Southwest Airlines flight.
In a video taken by another passenger, the 24-year-old woman is seen reprimanding a stewardess who was seizing her belongings. Then the clip ends with other passengers getting up to help the flight attendants calm the angry woman.
According to the Sacramento Bee, the tragedy began when Curbelo entered the bathroom of the plane and falsified the smoke detector to be able to smoke a cigarette.
Curbelo started screaming and uttering threats when he was told it was a violation of the smoking regulations on the plane, said Southwest in a statement.
Three federal laws violated
“Our flight attendant reports indicate that a customer violated federal laws by smoking on board a plane and smuggling a smoke detector into an aircraft washroom,” the company said. “Our crew enforced the regulations and this was followed by the passenger’s explosion. The safety of our crew and passengers is our top priority and we take all threats seriously. “
