The World Cup is the major tournament that brings together almost all football superstars. However, some legends have never had the opportunity to participate in this flagship competition in football.
Ryan Giggs (Wales)
Ryan Giggs, Manchester United legend, is the most decorated player in the history of English football, with thirteen Premier League titles.
Giggs chose to play for Wales although England was interested to have him on his national team. However, Giggs never took part in the World Cup with Wales.
Bernd Schuster (Germany)
The German has played for the big clubs including Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona. He has won three Ligas and six Spanish Cups. Despite his brilliant performance in the clubs, Schuster missed the only opportunity he faced at the 1982 World Cup in Spain.
George Best (Northern Ireland)
The former Manchester United star George Best was probably the most gifted British footballer of all time, but he failed to attend a World Cup.
Coach Northern Ireland’s Milly Bingham refused to select him for the 1982 World Cup in Spain because he did not feel he had the talent to play such a big competition.
George Weah (Liberia)
George Weah is one of the greatest football players Africa has ever known. However, Liberia has never qualified for the World Cup and George Weah has never participated in this world competition.
Abedi Ayew (Ghana)
He has often been compared to the legend of Brazilian football, Pelé because of his talent. He is one of the most talented African footballers in history.
He won the French League title and won the African Footballer of the Year title three times. After their participation in the World Cup in 1982, Ghana no longer qualified while playing for the national team.
