Whether engaging the driver in casual talks or giving directives with regard to your destination and preferred routes, small talks during Uber/Lyft trips can undoubtedly be debilitating, especially after having had a hectic day.
Uber, American multinational transportation network company, has introduced the feature ‘Quiet Mode’ in its mobile app to suit riders who would rather have a silent trip.
The new feature is coming several months after app users repeatedly asked to be provided with a feature that allows them to opt out of having to talk to — or get chatty with — the drivers.
But really, why do we not have Lyft/Uber quiet mode yet.

“If you need to respond to emails or are in the mood for a nap, make your trip a quieter one with just one tap. If you’re in the mood to chat, that’s an option too,” Uber revealed on its website.
“Uber Black and Uber Black SUV riders told us they wanted high-quality service and premium comfort. That’s why we’ve improved features and requirements to meet or exceed their expectations on every ride.”
Additionally, the ride service is also launching a ‘Help with Luggage’ feature to “let your driver know that an extra pair of hands is needed for your luggage.” Riders can also communicate their optimal temperature before entering a vehicle.
Although the feature is not available on Uber X and pool rides, riders will have to select an Uber Black or Uber Black SUV premium ride in order to test the new feature.
Noting that the introduced premium feature preferences and more would be available to all US Uber Black and Uber Black SUV riders as from May 15, the ride service revealed that there are plans to “expand these…to more cities soon”.
In April, Uber Nigeria had launched a new feature on its app that enables its customers in the country to tip its drivers after a satisfying trip.
