Menagh Air Base, used by Washington to deliver weapons to the Kurds, was targeted by Turkish aviation during Operation Olive Branch in Afrine.
However, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said ground forces could participate in the operation on Sunday (January 21st).
“Tomorrow [Sunday, ed], as appropriate, land units of the armed forces of Turkey will join actions [to Afrine, ed] if necessary. They will act with the Free Syrian Army, “he said.
On Saturday, Ankara announced the launch of Operation Olive Branch against Kurdish armed groups in the Afrine area of northern Syria. The People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Democratic Union Party (PYD) are regarded by Turkey as a Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), banned in the country of Anatolia.
Moscow expressed concern over the situation in the Afrine area and called on the parties to the conflict to show mutual restraint.
