Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur claimed her maiden WTA title on Sunday defeating Daria Kasatkina in straight sets also becoming the first Arab woman to win a WTA title.
The second seed defeated her opponent 7-5, 6-4 in an hour-and-a-half. It was her first win against Kastkina in three attempts.
Victory saw Jabeur, ranked 24th in the world, end a run of two defeats in WTA finals and strengthen her preparations for the year’s third Grand Slam, Wimbledon.
She had lost her first final in October 2018 in the Kremlin Cup to Kasatkina who came from a set down to win in three sets 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.
She then suffered a similar fate in April this year at the MUSC Health Women’s Open when she was stunned by Australia’s Astra Sharma.
This is Jabeur’s biggest title to date since a grass-court event, the Manchester ITF W100 in 2018.
