Top 10 Tallest Buildings in Africa

Africa is not normally known for her tall buildings but there has been some significant improvements in that direction. The building leading the pack is the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. Towering over the rest of Africa at 223 metres, completed in 1973.

Africa has some exciting projects coming up with the Al Noor Towerplanned for Casablanca, Morroco. The developers say the  Al Noor Tower is a project to boost the economy of the area. The tower will measure an eye-popping 540 metres and will be 114 floors. The project will easily dwarf London’s famous Shard.

There are more buildings on the books likely to be taller than the Calrton Centre like “The One” in Nairobi, Kenya and Ghana’s Hope City. At 270 meter and 75-story building the Hope City will pip the current tallest. On paper it will be one of the tallest buildings in Africa if not the one.

Ponte City is a skyscraper in the Hillbrow neighbourhood of Johannesburg, South Africa. It was built in 1975 to a height of 173 m (567.6 ft), making it the tallest residential skyscraper in Africa. The 54-story building is cylindrical, with an open center allowing additional light into the apartments. The center space is known as “the core” and rises above an uneven rock floor. 6. Marble Towers, Johannesburg, South Africa

The Marble Towers is a skyscraper in the Central Business District of Johannesburg, South Africa. It was built in 1973 and is 32 storeys tall. The building has an eight-storey parking garage attached to it. It has the biggest electronic sign in the Southern Hemisphere, measuring 44 metres by 32 metres by 12 metres. 7. Pearl Dawn or The Pearls, Durban, South Africa

This dark blue modernist skyscraper sits on Umhlanga Drive, overlooking the calm blue yonder of the Indian Ocean. The building is mainly used for residential purposes.
