The first black couple in the White House will soon make way for the next first family. As the American presidential elections gain steam, we are reminded that our favourite first family is on it’s way out. Since they moved in in 2008, the Obamas have regularly been photographed close to each other and making us all want to fall in love.
While we don’t know the ins and outs of their relationship, what is visible from the outside is a couple who care deeply about each other and celebrate that. President Obama, even as the leader of the free world, always seems attentive to his partner when the pair make public appearances.
The couple have been married for over twenty years and have two teenage daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama. Michelle first met Barack while they were at law firm Sidley Austin, two among the few African Americans there, and she was assigned to mentor him as a summer associate.
One night, President Obama and his wife Michelle decided to do something out of the ordinary and go for a casual dinner at a restaurant that wasn’t too luxurious. When they were seated, the owner of the restaurant asked the President’s Secret Service if he could please speak to the First Lady in private. They obliged and Michelle had a conversation with the owner.
Following this conversation President Obama asked Michelle: “Why was he so interested in talking to you?” She mentioned that during her teenage years, he had been madly in love with her. President Obama then said: “So if you had married him, you would now be the owner of this lovely restaurant,” to which Michelle responded: “No. If I had married him, he would now be the President.”
