The capsule had 35 daily household items that you’d usually find in any one’s home. Some of the things, which were put in the capsule included few copies of Life Magazines, Cigarettes, 75 types of fabrics, metals, plastics, contemporary art, news records, seeds of wheat, corn, soy, alfalfa. It also included a ‘Micro-film’ that has over ten million words, thousand pictures, and a small microscope viewing all of these.
The 1939 capsule was filled with an inert nitrogen gas to keep the contents safe for at least next 5,000 years, that is 6939 to be exact.
Apart from this stuff, this capsule contained a special message from a celebrated scientist and physicist Albert Einstein.
“Our time is productive in creative minds, the inventions of which could facilitate our lives considerably. We are crossing the seas by power and utilize power also to relieve humanity from all tiring muscular work. We have learned to fly, and we can send messages and news without any difficulty over the entire world through electric waves. However, the production and distribution of commodities are entirely unorganized so that everybody must live in fear of being eliminated from the economic cycle, in this way suffering for want of everything.
Furthermore, people living in different countries kill each other at irregular time intervals, so that also, for this reason, anyone who thinks about the future must live in fear and terror. The intelligence and character of the masses are incomparably lower than the intelligence and character of the few who produce some thing valuable for the community. I trust that posterity will read these statements with a feeling of proud and justified superiority.”
The closing lines had the message for the generation of future …
“Each age considers itself as the pinnacle & final triumph above all eras that have gone before. In our time many believe that the human race has reached the ultimate in material and social development; others, that humanity shall march onward to achievements splendid beyond the imagination of this day, to new worlds of human wealth, power, life, and happiness. We choose, with the latter, to believe that men will solve the problems of the world, that the human race will triumph over its limitations and its adversities, that the future will be glorious.
To the people of that future, we leave this legacy,” reads the Time Capsule.
