These French Speaking African Villages Have Been Rated World’s Best ‘Get Away’ Destinations

You just want to travel and explore with friends for the holidays? Or you part of those Africans  who believe its only the Western World that gives the most exciting memories in terms of holidaying. I put to you that you may be wrong.

Try these French-speaking African countries with quaint villages and wonderful people.

1. Comoros

Named after the Arabic word for ‘moon’, Qamar, this poetically named but little-known island is located between Madagascar and Mozambique.

For a swim, the sheltered beaches around Trou du Prophète (Prophet’s Hole) can’t be beaten. Legend has it that the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) hid from marauding pirates behind the tall rocks in the bay.


2. Benin Republic

Cotonou is one of the low-cost and easy-to-get holiday destinations in Africa. There are many places to shop cheap imported items, great restaurants and beaches.

3. Lome

Lomé is the capital of Togo, in West Africa and it’s known for its palm-lined Atlantic coastline.

This quaint little capital is not only famous for their voodoo items but are very hospitable.

Visit the resorts and beaches at this lively little place.

4. Mauritius

Mauritius, known for its beaches, lagoons and reefs, is one place you do not want to miss!

The mountainous interior includes a national park, with rainforests, waterfalls, hiking trails and wildlife like the flying fox. Capital Port Louis has sites such as the Champs de Mars horse track.

5. Morocco

Morocco is a North African country bordering the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

This beautiful country is distinguished by its Berber, Arabian and European cultural influences.

Marrakesh’s medina, a mazelike medieval quarter, offers entertainment in its Djemaa el-Fna square and souks (marketplaces) selling ceramics, jewellery and metal lanterns. The capital Rabat’s Kasbah of the Udayas is a 12th-century royal fort overlooking the water.
