Which airports in Africa have the best security, check-ins and restaurants to make your trip totally stress free and relax? The Airports Council International (ACI), a representative of the global trade of the world’s airports, has revealed everything.
According to ACI’s 2018 ranking for the past year, Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca (CMN) is the best airport in Africa. The Moroccan airport, hub of the three major Moroccan airlines such as Air Arabia Morocco, Royal Air Maroc and Royal Air Maroc Express, was among the sixteen airports making a first appearance in the awards. The CMN won the Best African Airport Award for more than 2 million passengers a year, while Nairobi Airport in Kenya was also considered the most improved facility in the Africa region.
The CMN was followed by Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius and Durban Airport in South Africa, respectively second and third. Mauritius lost two places from 2016, while the tourist destination ranked as having the best airport of the continent.
Durban was also ranked in the top three in 2016, ranking second.
“This year, sixteen unprecedented airports are winners for the first time, which is a challenge for the best-performing airports in delivering top-notch customer service,” said CREA. “This phenomenon reflects the increasingly competitive operating environment of the airport industry, where continuous service improvement is a key element of corporate performance. Airports make customer experience a high priority, “the organization added.
Indeed, the number of air passengers is expected to increase in Africa. The forecasts show a number that will almost triple to 303 million in the next 20 years.
African countries have also taken steps towards a single market for air transport. Earlier this year, the African Union, with 23 signatory countries, launched an intracontinental market that would operate under a common regulatory framework.
As a reminder, the Airport Service Quality award, ASQ, is a prestigious reference in the aviation industry undertaken by the International Council of Airports, ACI.
