The new African Woman magazine will hold the second edition of the New African Woman Awards and Forum in Dakar Senegal on the 12th and 13th of April, this year.
Being a pan-African bi-monthly magazine, the new African Woman team use the awards to celebrate and honor exceptional African women who have made a positive impact and contributions in their communities, and the continent at large, in the past one year.
Nigeria and Kenya had the most nominees for the awards with 12 and 10 nominations respectively. South Africa, Somalia, and Gambia followed with 8, 4 and 3 nominations respectively.
Twelve categories saw 68 African women being lauded for their various achievements. A special panel will scrutinize the current list and determine the winners of each category who will then be announced on 12th of April 2017 at a gala dinner taking place in Dakar Senegal.
Included in the nominee list this year are; Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the new United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, Olympic gold medallist Caster Semenya and SA’s former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela. Nigerian female Comedienne, Emmanuella Samuel, appears as the youngest nominee all round.
