Tech: Instagram Reaches 1Billion Users and Launches New Application

Instagram has joined Facebook, WhatsApp and Messenger in the group of social networks with more than one billion users. In 2012, while Instagram has only 30 million users, Facebook buys the platform for a billion dollars.

Six years later, Instagram reaches 1 billion users. The photo and video sharing platform announced Wednesday, June 20 that it had exceeded 1 billion monthly users. F acebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram are part of this closed club and all belong to Mark Zuckerberg. The platform is very popular among people between the ages of 13 and 34. Now, it’s Youtube that the platform wants to compete by creating IGVT,  an application dedicated to long formats: 10 minutes minimum and up to 1 hour maximum.

” We started with square (format) photos, and then we launched the video in 2013. Since then, the video has exploded,  ” says Kevin Systrom, co-founder of the platform. He adds that “the way we watch video has changed.”

In the United States, it is 181.7 million Americans who watch the video at least once a month in 2018, reveals the firm eMarketer. ” Teenagers watch less television but more online designer videos ,” said Systrom.

IGVT is accessible independently or directly from Instagram. The application plans to offer channels to allow users to find videos of their favorite creators.

Exclusively reserved for mobile, the application offers videos in vertical format. Users have the opportunity to follow the video on the entire screen of their smartphone.
