Spain has just set a grim record in the coronavirus pandemic, recording more deaths in a single day than any nation so far.
On Thursday, officials in the country reported that 950 more people in the country had died of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
It brings the total deaths in the country to 10,003.
Italy, where the virus first started taking hold in Europe, peaked at 919 deaths in a day on March 27. Its death toll remains the largest in the world.
However, Italy’s outbreak is showing signs of slowing, logging its smallest daily increase in deaths in a week on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, police in Spain are asking for the public to donate full-face snorkel masks to be turned into makeshift ventilators for an expected wave of more coronavirus patients with severe respiratory issues.
