South Africa is among the world’s top 20 places to raise a family , this is according to The World Through Expat Eyes, a recent survey conducted by InterNations.
Over 14,000 expats from different countries across the globe participated in the survey, which examined a host of issues including ease of settling in, the best and worst places for expats to live and top destinations for quality of life.
South Africa was ranked 18th in the Best Places for Expat Families category by the participants, with the UK & US being excluded from the list.
The countries were ranked according to their ratings in 4 categories:
- Availability of Childcare and Education – South Africa was ranked at 11
- Cost of Childcare and Education – South Africa ranked at 20
- Quality of Education – South Africa did not feature in the top 20
- Family Wellbeing – South Africa did not feature in the top 20, and was actually voted, along with Kenya, as among the worst destinations for children’s health and safety
The top 3 countries are Austria, Finland and Sweden where education, inexpensive daily childcare, parental leave and a range of leisure activities all help to make them attractive places for families because of excellent children’s health and safety, and a good family life in general.
