Serena Williams Owns Yet Another Record As Sports Card Sells For $266,000

Asigned version of Serena Williams’ inaugural NetPro card was sold for $266,400 at Goldin Auctions over the weekend, the Atlantic reports. The sale of the 2003 card is the single largest value ever paid for a women’s sports card.

The price of Williams’ card more than doubled the previous record held by a different Williams card. A July 1999 SI For Kids Serena Williams rookie card sold for $117,000 and another Williams card from that set sold on eBay in March for more than $91,00, according to the Atlantic. Prior to that, the record was set on an August 1992 SI For Kids Mia Hamm card that sold for $34,440 in 2021.

Williams made her professional tennis debut in 1995. However, 2003 was the first year that a set of NetPro tennis cards had been released in almost a decade, according to Bleacherreport.

Williams is the most successful female tennis player. She won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, more than any other woman or man during the open era. In 2021, she was ranked the 85th most powerful woman in the world and the 9th most powerful Black woman.

Until recently, Williams was the highest-paid female athlete in the world. Her net worth is estimated to be $36 million. Besides investing in cryptocurrencies, she also has a clothing line and accessories.

The tennis great through her Serena Ventures has invested in over 34 startups over the past five years with 60% of the investments focused on companies founded by women and minorities.
