The International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) said nearly 1.7 million tickets were sold for the 2018 World Cup after some 400,000 tickets were sold in the final phase of sales that ended yesterday Tuesday.
FIFA claims that 394,433 tickets were sold during a first-come, first-served promo since March 13. Russians dominated purchases by purchasing 216,134 tickets, followed by unskilled US fans (16,462), Argentina (15,006), Colombia (14,755) and Mexico (14,372).
In all, 1,698,049 tickets have already been sold for the 2018 World Cup, to be held from June 14 to July 15 in 11 Russian cities, said FIFA. For this first stage of ticket sales, overall international demand is 53%. A final promo sale phase will be launched again on April 18th.
