The life of Meghan Markle has just changed. By marrying Prince Harry, she officially joined the royal family.
Being part of the British royal family is a prestige, but it is not without constraints. From now on, the new duchess will have to follow a stricter line of conduct.
Here are the 8 things Meghan Markle will not be allowed to do:
1. No more selfies
As Duchess, Meghan Markle will no longer be able to take selfies
2. Go to bed before the queen
When members of the royal family are in the same house or castle, it is often up to the queen to determine when the others will go to bed.
3. No more extravagant clothes
The royal family has a very strict dress style. Meghan Markle will not be able to wear bustier dresses, too high heels, too short dresses and her jeans must be black and worn only at sporting events.
4. No more social networks
In recent years, Meghan had three million followers on Instagram. But she had to delete her Instagram and Twitter accounts because the royal family does not use social networks. Meghan will now join Harry, Kate and William on the Kensington Royal accounts that update the public about the royal family’s charities. Only on this official account did Meghan and Harry share their engagement photos and reveal the date of their wedding.
5. No more going out in public
Now that she has joined one of the most famous families in the world, she will have to get used to being under high security at all times. Jogging alone in the park is now a thing of the past.
6. She will no longer be able to get involved in politics
Meghan has applied for British citizenship before marriage, but that does not mean she will have the right to participate in the elections. Although this is not prohibited by law, it is unconstitutional for the monarch to vote in an election.
A spokesman for Buckingham Palace told Newsweek in June 2017 that members of the royal family do not vote “by convention”.
7. No more cinema
The duchess will have to give up her acting career. We will not see the new Meghan Markle in the movies.
8. Forbidden to sign autographs
No member of the royal family will sign you an autograph because the royal protocol forbids them to scribble their signatures for other people. Like the Queen, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Princes William and Harry, Meghan must now politely tell people that she will not sign autographs for them. However, they are allowed to sign visitors’ books at official meetings, as well as official documents.
