The renowned Physicist suggests that the human race should begin making plans to occupy other planets.
He went on to warn that failure to relocate to other planets will lead to extinction.
The said documentary is due to be released this summer as part of the BBC’s Tomorrow’s World science season.
Hawkings said the following during his speech at Oxford University,
“We must also continue to go into space for the future of humanity.”
“I don’t think we will survive another 1,000 without escaping beyond our fragile planet.”
“Although the chance of disaster to planet Earth in a given year may be quite low, it adds up over time, and becomes a near certainty in the next 1,000 or 10,000 years,”
“By that time, we should have spread out into space and to other stars, so a disaster on Earth would not mean the end of the human race.”
He mentioned that the earth is facing severe challenges like climate change, overpopulation, epidemics and asteroid strikes.
Stephen Hawkings’ Doomsday theory is not aloof of the predictions of some other scientists.
Some religious groups also have their version of the futuristic destruction of the planet.
Concurring to Stephen Hawking’s Doomsday Theory, billionaire Elon Musk in 2016 shared his belief that history has proof of it.
“I don’t have a doomsday prophecy but history suggests some doomsday event will happen.”
Following up his conviction, Musk has kicked off a project on Mars. He intends to set up a human colony in the coming years via his aerospace firm SpaceX.
While addressing the students at Oxford University, Hawkings said the planet has changed so much in the last 50 years. He encouraged the students not to passive observers of nature.
“The fact that we humans, who are ourselves mere fundamental particles of nature, have been able to come this close to understanding the laws that govern us and the universe is certainly a triumph.”
Not too long ago the world’s smartest man and physicist warned against the dangers of artificial intelligence. He underscored the fact that machines and robots were made to help man.
However he warned that overtime, they could be smarter than humans. Consequently that will pose a high level of disaster for humanity.
On a different occasion, Bill gates warned about the imminent use of computers to create bio-weapons. Already some ISIS members have been caught in the process.
To lighten up the mood and give an air of hope, Hawkings diluted his doomsday theory with these words:
“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious.”
“However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.”
