In a speech to more than 200 former Communist soldiers in Malacañang last week, the President of the Philippines gave this directive on what to do now to female guerrillas.
“There is a new order from the mayor, we will not kill you. We are just going to shoot in the vagina said Duterte. He added that without their private part, women would be “useless”.
Duterte mentioned the word Visayan “bisong”, meaning the vagina, several times throughout the speech, although it was later censored during an official transcript of the Palace. A vulgar word simply replaced by a dash. However, the remarks were recorded as having sparked public laughter.
These “nonsense” orders have angered human rights organizations and women’s groups in the region.
“It’s just the latest in a series of misogynistic, derogatory and humiliating statements he made about women” said Carlos H Conde, a researcher in the Philippines for Human Rights Watch.
” This encourages the police to commit sexual violence during armed conflict, which is a violation of international humanitarian law.”
Congressman Emmi de Jesus described the president as “the most dangerous macho-fascist of the government at the moment,” adding, “He portrayed himself as the incarnation of misogyny and fascism.”
Last week, it was announced that the International Criminal Court was considering complaints that Duterte had committed crimes against humanity in his bloody war on drugs, which left more than 4,000 dead. But the president said he did not mind being charged and jailed by the International Criminal Court, as long as it allows conjugal visits by more than one woman.
His spokesman, Harry Roque, later rejected allegations that Duterte was sexist and misogynist.
