The Egyptian has beaten for the second time in a row its competitors including the Senegalese Sadio Mané and the Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. By winning the African gold ball for a second year in a row, it’s a feat he has accomplished as did great African players like Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Toure and even El Hadji Diouf.

In winning him for a second consecutive year, Mohammed Salah joins the list of Senegalese El Hadji Diouf (2001, 2002), Ivory Coast Yaya Toure (2011, 2012) and Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o (2003, 2004), the only players to have won the trophy two years in a row.

The Reds striker also gave his opinion on Egypt’s conquest of CAN 2019 organizing rights:   Welcoming the Nations Cup is a great thing. We are looking to win the title because we do not have not won for a long time, “ he said.
