“Today’s verdict is a step forward,” Biden said in a Tuesday evening address to the nation. “But it’s not enough, we can’t stop here. In order to deliver real change and reform, we can and we must do more to reduce the likelihood that a tragedy like this will ever occur again.”

“Because of smartphones so many Americans have now seen the racial injustice that Black American’s have known for generations,” VP Kamala Harris said alongside Biden.

“We are all part of George Floyd’s legacy and our job is to honor it and honor him,” Harris added.

Former President of the United States Barack Obama also issued a statement saying, “Today, a jury did the right thing. But true justice requires much more. Michelle and I send our prayers to the Floyd family, and we stand with all those who are committed to guaranteeing every American the full measure of justice that George and so many others have been denied.”

Derek Chauvin was found guilty of all three charges against him in the murder of George Floyd.

He will be sentenced in eight weeks.

He faced three charges: second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second degree manslaughter.
