There is a phrase in the prayer which goes as ‘And lead us not into temptation’ but Pope Francis believes the translation of the phrase is misleading because God does not lead humans into temptation.

He has therefore suggested “do not let us fall into temptation” as a replacement for the problematic phrase.

According to Pope Francis, the Catholic Church in France was already using his suggested phrase.

“Do not let me fall into temptation because it is I who fall, it is not God who throws me into temptation and then sees how I fell,” BBC reported him as telling TV2000, an Italian Catholic TV channel.

“A father does not do that, a father helps you to get up immediately”, he reportedly emphasised.

The Lord’s Prayer, according to Christian doctrine, is the template prayer Jesus Christ gave his apostles during his time on earth and it is the most widely known prayer of the religion.

The current translation is from the Latin Vulgate, a 4th-Century Latin translation of the Bible, which itself was translated from ancient Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic.

And Pope Francis, who is known for his head-on approach to issues, feels some of the translations may have been wrong.
