Pope Francis has since expressed solidarity with the families of the 257 people who perished in the crash. Through a telegram message sent to the Archbishop of Algiers he expressed his “closeness” to the Algiers nation ‘’struck by mourning’’

The message further reads the ” Pope joins in prayer to the suffering of the families of all the people affected by this drama, as well as to the pain of the whole Algerian people”.

The government has declared three days of mourning for this which is considered the worst air disaster in the country. Investigations leading to the cause of the accident have also been established.
