Patrick Mboma: “Samuel Eto’o is the Best African Player in History…”

Invited to a gala match organized by a brewery company in Cameroon, former Cameroonian international Patrick Mboma commented on a possible return of Samuel Eto’o in selection.

Like Thierry Henri who also participated in the gala, the former striker of the Indomitable Lions estimated that Samuel Eto’o is the best player in the history of the African continent.

“Samuel Eto’o is the best African in history, I think. I know that on this I can hurt some people. There have been many very great players on the African scene; I’m thinking of Georges Weah, Roger Milla and many others. But the reality is that Samuel Eto’o is the No. 1 in Africa, “said the consultant of Canal + Sport.

To the question of whether Eto’o can still bring to the national team of his country? Patrick Mboma put it in perspective saying that ‘There was a CAN in 2017 and he did not participate. He announced his international retirement a long time ago now. The question is not whether he can, but if he wants. And will the future coach of the national team be in this same will? I think that sportingly, Eto’o still has qualities to defend the colors of Cameroon. But we should also respect his desire to withdraw “.

In the end, about the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations that Cameroon is about to host, Mboma said that this competition will be of significant influence for the country. “To organize a competition like this one is also to improve sports facilities, hospital, airport … it is something of consequent which Cameroon must benefit”. he hinted.
