Famous Nokia is making a big comeback with their new android-powered Nokia smartphone.
Following an announcement by Microsoft that it will be dropping off the old Nokia feature phone to a Finnish company called HMD Global Oy, HMD is now seeking to earn the rights to use the Nokia name on smartphones and tablets for the next ten years.
In a Press release, HMD said:
“HMD has been founded to provide a focused, independent home for a full range of Nokia-branded feature phones, smartphones and tablets. To complete its portfolio of Nokia branding rights, HMD announced today that it has conditionally agreed to acquire from Microsoft the rights to use the Nokia brand on feature phones, and certain related design rights.”
HMD also plans to invest $500 million in following years to booster products. Investors will provide the funds for the new Nokia smartphone. Also, profits from the feature phone business will additionally provide funds for the new Nokia.
Nokia’s involvement will, however, be limited to setting mandatory brand requirements and performance-related provisions as a board member.
Manufacturing the new HMDNokia phones and tablets will be the primary responsibility of another subsidiary of Foxconn, Foxconn International Holdings.
Neither of the companies have disclosed when the Nokia smartphone will be out, as well as what Android version it will run on.
However, recent leaks point to an early 2017 release with the latest Android version, the Nougat. Also many speculate the two phones to be released will have 5.2′ inch and 5.5′ inch display respectively. It might feature a 22.6 Megapixel primary camera.
It will also allegedly feature a Snapdragon 820 chipset inside it with a 3GB of RAM and might be put on the market for the price of USD 300.
It is also rumored to have an all-metal body that is waterproof and dustproof, however, these are rumors as the phone is still in the works, undergoing testing.
