Nigerian-British Actor, John Boyega Wins BAFTA 2016 Rising Star Award For His Role In Star Wars

Star Wars actor John Boyega has taken home the EE Rising Star prize at the BAFTA Awards.

The award is the only one that is voted for by the public.

Boyega, who starred in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, said: ‘I want to thank God for this moment. I have some very special people in my life.

‘I’m going to share this award with all the young dreamers who are hard-working… This is for you.’

Star Wars: The Force Awakens won the BAFTA for special visual effects.

Boyega was born in Peckham, south London, to Nigerian parents, Abigail and Samson. His first role was a leopard in a play at his primary school at 8 years old. The now 23 year old recalls how everything froze for a moment, when he was told he was going to star in the new star wars movie by the director J. J Abrams. He is the first black leading character to star in the billion dollar franchise.

Congratulations John Boyega!
