Nigerian artist Tiwa Savage announced that she will not perform at the upcoming DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival in Johannesburg scheduled for September 21 in light of the wave of attacks on immigrants in South Africa.
Tiwa made the announcement on Twitter adding that she was praying for all the victims and families affected by recent events.
“This is a serious issue where no one wins when blood is shed whether old videos or not. Issue needs to be resolved. We Africans (including South Africans) need each other,” Tiwa tweeted.
The DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival is set to be held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand, Gauteng province, on September 21 and 22.
Many of Savage’s fans took to social media to express their concerns over the violence with some even calling for a boycott of South African companies, such as MTN and DStv.
Nigeria said it was already taking decisive measures to put an end to the persistent xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.
Additionally, Nigeria summoned its South African ambassador to express its dissatisfaction over the treatment of her citizens and sent a special envoy, who is expected to arrive later this week.
