The Ijaw Youth Council in Nigeria has raised an alarm about the situation in the Niger Delta, Reuters reports. The area has seen several attacks by militants recently.
In a statement released on Friday, the council say the situation in Niger Delta is “rapidly deteriorating and getting out of control” after a wave of militant attacks, a major youth group said on Friday.
The council also “calls on President Mohammadu Buhari to urgently and personally take charge of the management of the process to return peace and normalcy to the region,”
The Ijaw Youth Council represents one of the largest ethnic groups in the Niger Delta.
