An Islamic preacher in Turkey said that men should grow their beards to make it clear that they are not women.
The Islamic spokesman Murat Bayaral spoke this weekend in the TV show Fatih Medreseleri, attacking men without a beard.
Bayaral said, “Men should grow beards. One of the two parts of the body that separates men from women is beards, “ according to Hurriyet Daily News. For example, if you see a man with long hair from afar, you may think he is a woman if he does not have a beard. Because nowadays women and men dress the same way.
“God forgive! You may be possessed by indecent thoughts.
The criticism of the beardless men provoked a real uproar.
Magdalena Kirchner, who is a member of the Istanbul Policy Center, said that explosions like Bayaral are not uncommon. “Turkish debates on piety and modesty are frequently repeated ,” she told Newsweek.
Erdogan said in 2012 his intention to raise “godly generations” and former Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arinç said in 2014 that women should not laugh aloud in public.
Kirchner went on to add that Bayaral’s beliefs revealed the Turkish government’s desire to build “upward pressure against a [secular] way of life without having to impose legal constraints.”
Another Sydney preacher, Umm Jamaal Ud-Din, has criticized women who choose to depilate their eyebrows. Indeed, for him, it is a sin, or haram, that the women epilate their eyebrows, even if they believe that it is hygienic.
