Meghan Markle Pays Homage to Tennis Ace Serena Williams With This Very Special Gesture

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were pictured touching down in the regional town of Dubbo, 300 kilometres north-west of Sydney, to visit a number of charities including the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which provides health services to rural communities.

Meghan was greeted on the tarmac by a horde of school children when she descended from the Royal Australian Air Force aeroplane, and was pictured in a noticeably more practical outfit compared to her recent glamorous get-ups.

She was wearing jeans by Australian brand Outlander, a shirt by Maison Kitsune, boots by J Crew and a necklace by Natalie Martin.

However, it was her jacket choice which drew the most attention, as it was taken from her long-term friend Serena William’s own collection.

Serena responded excitedly on Instagram, saying: “The face you make when you and Meghan have matching Serena blazers.”

The tennis ace was spotted attending the Royal wedding at St George’s Chapel in May, and Meghan watched Serena in the Ladies’ singles final at Wimbledon in July.

Serena commented previously on her bond with Meghan, saying: “We have always supported each other, just been there for each other through a lot.

“Every year for a couple of years, Meghan comes out to Wimbledon and has supported me.”

Speaking to The Sunday Project, she added: “We have known each other for a long time, but we really are relying on each other a lot recently.”

Serena also recently praised the Duchess following the launch of her charity cookbook for the Grenfell community, entitled Together: Our Community Cookbook.

Writing on Twitter, she said: “I used to call you Meghan, and I still do, but dear Duchess of Sussex your first project ‘Together’, a cookbook bringing women of all cultures together.

“I could not be more excited about it and proud of you.

“It’s beautiful – diversity, inclusivity, coming together in grief or joy.”

Meghan has also expressed her fondness for Serena, noting that the pair “hit it off immediately” during their first encounter.

Writing on her now defunct blog, The Tig, she said: “Taking pictures, laughing through the flag football game we were both playing and chatting, not about tennis or acting, but about good old fashioned girly stuff.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the regional city of Dubbo, New South Wales, to tour the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which provides vital health services to rural and remote communities across parts of Australia.

They will also visited farmers affected by droughts which have crippled large swathes of the country this year.

The couple then held a public picnic in Victoria Park, where Prince Harry gave a speech to numerous members of the public.

The Duke and Duchess concluded their itinerary on day two by visiting a local school working with Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders.
