Meet The HBCU Alum Appointed As President Of Disney Branded Television

In 2020, Ayo Davis was hired as the executive vice president of creative development and strategy for Disney Branded Television, where she had the authority to direct all live-action programming for scripted and unscripted series in addition to movies and specials.

Under her role, the Dillard University graduate would report to Gary Marsh, who had served 32 years as the former president and chief creative officer for Disney Channels Worldwide.

Well, it looks like Davis has been doing a stellar job within her role because, in case you missed it, she received another major promotion within the company in September of 2021, replacing Marsh as the new president of Disney Branded Television.

In her new role, Ayo Davis will report directly to Peter Rice, the Chairman of Disney General Entertainment.

“Ayo is a focused leader with impeccable creative instincts who’s excelled in every role she’s held at Disney,” Rice shared in a statement. “Her creative eye for talent has made a meaningful impact in front of and behind the camera, from iconic shows across our networks that were defined by their casting choices to building a roster of creative talent that will redefine family programming at Disney Branded Television. She’s the absolute perfect person to lead the team at a time they are broadening their remit to develop more family programming across streaming and cable distribution. I’m excited to watch all she will accomplish.”

With the HBCU graduate’s title, she will have authority to manage the content programming for families and children up to the age of 17. Ayo Davis will also manage the strategy, production and development of Disney XD, Disney Junior and Disney Channel.

“I am beyond grateful to Peter Rice and Gary Marsh for their extraordinary leadership, support and mentorship,” Ayo Davis said in a press statement. “It’s a tremendous honor to continue Gary’s legacy of delighting kids and families through Disney Branded TV’s unparalleled storytelling, and it’s an amazing time for kids and family programming.
