Meet Talented Young Man Who Lives In A Bunker Under A Cannon Without Electricity

A talented artist in the island of Gorée in Senegal is happy to live in a bunker under a cannon.

In an interview with the BBC, Massa Mbodj said he does not mind his unusual home despite not having electricity.

The island was a centre for the infamous slave trade for over 300 years.

The cannon in which Mbodj lives was built to defend the island from attackers. It was last used in 1940 to sink a British boat.

Mbodj said his family knows that he lives there and are fine with it. There are three bunkers in the cannon and other people live in the other two.

He added that he likes the island, where he has lived for 30 years, because it is quiet, has no cars, and pollution is therefore almost nonexistent.

He has set up an art workshop and garden outside the bunker and that’s how he makes a living.
