Francisca Oteng Mensah, of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), won by a landslide with over 70,000 votes. Her closest competitor followed with 15,000 votes.

She defeated the incumbent MP Kofi Frempong who had been in parliament since 2004 during the party primaries.

Francisca, the daughter of Dr. Oteng Gyasi, owner of international textile company, the Angel Group, will be the first university undergraduate and youngest person to enter parliament when it resumes for its next session in 2017.

The law student, of the Kwame Nkrumah University, won the seat in Kwabre East constituency in the Ashanti Region.
