An airplane was forced to land urgently after the pilot fainted in the cockpit. The flight, which was headed for Maderia from Manchester, had to be diverted to Porto Portugal because of an “urgent medical situation on board,” according to the airline. The pilot was reportedly taken to the hospital after landing.
The alarm was reported to have started at around 10:20 am (local time) on Monday, August 26, and a runway was closed for half an hour until 11:00 am so the emergency landing could take place, reports Metro UK.
Medical workers said they received a request for assistance for a 40-year-old man who had been taken to hospital “as a precautionary measure”.
According to Metro UK, a spokesman for Jet2 said: “The Manchester flight LS765 to Funchal was diverted to Porto as a precaution this morning, due to the discomfort of one of the pilots. “
“A reserve aircraft and a replacement crew will be sent to Porto so that we can get customers to Funchal as soon as possible.”
