Lionel Messi Breaks Silence on Coronavirus Outbreak: ‘These are Difficult Days for Everyone’

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has joined the many voices from the world of sport who have asked people to stay at home amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

His message goes beyond just informing the public, though, as he also sends his support to all of those affected by the coronavirus, as well as to the health professionals that are working every day to try and eradicate the disease.

“These are difficult days for everyone,” Messi wrote on social media alongside a picture of himself at home with two of his children.

“We live worried about what is happening and we want to help by putting ourselves in the place of those who are having the worst time, or because it directly affects them or their family and friends.

Regarding the health professionals currently working to find a cure, Messi sent love their way whilst also appealing to the public to follow their guidelines.

“I want to send a lot of strength to them, to those who are working on the front line to fight it in hospitals and health centres,” he added.

“Health always comes first.

“This is an exceptional time and we must follow the instructions of both the health organisations and the public authorities.

“This is the only way we can change it effectively.”

Finally, Messi reminded people that they should not leave their homes.

“It’s time to be responsible and stay at home, plus it’s the perfect time to be with your loved ones, which you can’t always do,” he stated.

“A hug, and hopefully we can turn this situation around as soon as possible.”

Barcelona have ceased all activity for the next 15 days, with the players receiving a talk on Friday from Antoni Trilla, the head of Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology at the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, and Jaume Padros, the president of the Barcelona Medical Association and head of occupational health at Barcelona.

#QuedateEnCasa #StayAtHome
