LinkedIn Launches a Feature that Lets You Search for a Job Without Your Boss Knowing

LinkedIn has launched a feature to let you secretly search for jobs online without your boss knowing, the company announced on Thursday.

The feature called Open Candidates lets users privately signal to recruiters that they are open to new job opportunities.

Users can select the type of companies they are looking at, the most relevant roles, the size of the company and extra information about themselves. Recruiters on LinkedIn will then be able to see that you are looking for a job but people within your own organization won’t know.

“Who among us hasn’t, at some point, tried to find work without our boss finding out? Now, you can privately indicate to recruiters on LinkedIn without worrying. We will hide the Open Candidates signal from recruiters at your company or affiliated company recruiters,” LinkedIn careers product leader Daniel Shapero, said in a blog post.

Open Candidates is now available in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia on desktop and mobile web and will be launched globally “soon”, LinkedIn said.

But beware: Users need to read the fine print, which says the platform cannot guarantee your current employer won’t see your job search.

“We take steps to not show your current company that you’re open, but can’t guarantee that we can identify every recruiter affiliated with your company,” LinkedIn said.
